POSITION SUMMARY:
Working independently or under general supervision of the Application Integration Manager at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), the IS Integration Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting integration points across various clinical, financial, administrative, research and revenue cycle system applications. This role is primarily focused on leading the technical analysis, design and implementation of the integration supporting DFCI’s symptom management platform. The Engineer plays an integral role in the development and design of data exchange and flow between critical systems leveraging a variety of integration standards. Providing ongoing integration support and maintenance, this role is also responsible for maintaining interfaces and evaluating existing inter and intra system operability to ensure integration meets current and future state workflow requirements and that data flow between systems adhere to DFCI and Mass General Brigham (MGB) security standards.
The IS Integration Engineer works closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including other IT technical staff, business analysts, clinical leaders and external vendors/teams.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, develops, tests and implements new interfaces between various vendor and non-vendor applications including the EHR (Epic)
- Leverages the following technologies in the design and support of integration: HL7, SOA Services, XML, flat files, FHIR, RESTful Services
- Evaluates technology options for integration to meet business requirements and provides recommendations for optimal solution
- Develops and maintains master file mapping tables to support data integration mapping as needed
- Under the direction of the Application Integration Manager, leads new integration projects which could involve Epic, other 3rd party vendors, internal and/or enterprise applications as needed
- Coordinates integration testing activities around major upgrades and other periodic software updates, as needed
- Serves as a lead in integrated testing for complex, large scale integration initiatives, such as major system upgrades, periodic software updates and new interface implementations
- Provides production system maintenance and support for various application integration and master files, including monitoring of existing interfaces (batch and real time) to ensure interfaces are working as intended
- Provides status reports, issues identification, mitigation and remediation to technical staff, support staff, stakeholders and leadership
- Provides regular project task updates to core project team(s) and/or program manager
- Develops and/or executes interface test plans and test scripts based on the functional workflow design and technical documentation
- Develops and maintains data flow diagrams, integration blueprints, schematics, technical specifications and configurations, and other relevant documentation, as required, to facilitate successful troubleshooting
- Determines technical steps and dependencies for cutover and technical go-lives
- Provides technical mentorship to other technical staff and the internal support team
- Participates in 24x7 on-call support rotation coverage for the IS Application Integration Team
- Actively collaborates and participates in DFCI Application Team meetings
- Performs all other duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Understanding of the capability of certain integration technologies as it relates to the business requirements
- Understanding of change management techniques, and the ability to apply them
- Demonstrates broad knowledge of clinical and revenue cycle workflows
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills
- Excellent organizational skills with an attention for detail and ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks at the same time
- Ability to document and communicate the status of interface (or conversion) implementation progress against plans and take corrective action as necessary
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and accurately document interface (or conversion) issues and the root cause
- Ability to review, modify and write integration and/or conversion test plans and test scripts
- Ability to lead small teams around new integration or data conversion initiatives
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed reporting environment
- Ability to build consensus across teams, with staff and leadership
- Ability to review project deliverables for completeness, quality, and compliance with established project standards
- Ability to document and communicate the status of progress against plans

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, IT, Healthcare, or related field required
- 7 years of related integration experience, including experience with healthcare information systems
- Experience with integration standards such as HL7, XML, SOAP, FHIR, RESTful Services required
- Experience with Intersystems Healthshare and/or API gateways preferred
