This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island.



As an integral member of the Division of Philanthropy, the Assistant Director collaborates with key members of various teams to meet annual fundraising goals. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director, Stewardship, Donor Relations to drive stewardship programs and strategic initiatives including acknowledgments, gift agreements, endowed fund reporting, donor-named awards and lectures, and stewardship mailings for a VIP donor base consisting of major, foundation, corporate, and historic donors. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

  • Manage the gift acknowledgement process for all major gifts, and Trustee/VIP-related gifts, including:
    • Conduct staff trainings, update documentation, and suggest and implement program enhancements;
    • Analyze gift reports daily, ensure accuracy and timeliness;
    • Supervise, assign, and edit materials drafted by the Donor Relations Writers;
    • Manage Donor Relations’ role in the Division’s annual automated acknowledgment template process;
    • Serve as an acknowledgement writer;
  • Manage gift agreements for incoming major gifts, including:
    • Draft standard term agreements, letters of intent, and amendments, maintain templates, and create new templates, as needed;
    • Oversee gift agreement tracking, approval, and distribution processes;
    • Convey information regarding all new gifts to other departments;
  • Contribute to the annual financial reporting process for all endowed funds:
    • Work closely with Fiscal & Regulatory Management, Finance, and staff across Institute;
    • Assist with the endowment activation process;
    • Draft and edit financial report content and messaging;
  • Manage donor-named awards and lectures program, including:
    • Correspondence to donors relating to lectures and awards;
    • Tracking of lecture speakers and award recipients, compile data for annual reporting;
    • Coordination and communication with Institute administrators to ensure funds are used;
  • Assist in management and fulfillment of requests of other Donor Relations writing assignments received from the Senior Vice President, Chief Philanthropy Officer and teams;
  • Oversee stewardship mailings;
  • Conduct interviews, research, and write stories for the donor newsletter, Impact, as needed;
  • Complete project time tracking in the QuickBase system and oversee direct report tracking;
  • Assume other Donor Relations duties as necessary.

  • Supervises two Donor Relations Writers



  • Superb organizational skills, project management, attention to detail
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate influence in situations across departments, without direct authority
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effective in working with varied audiences, internally and externally

This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse donors is a plus.





Up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. Works collaboratively with staff from the Division of Philanthropy, as well as staff from other departments at Dana-Farber.
