This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island.



The Officer is responsible for building a pipeline of Planned Giving (PG) prospects by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, personally soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of 350+, prioritizing grateful patients and those age 65+.

Dana-Farber is pursuing an ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign. This $2 billion campaign is the largest in the Institute’s history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer. Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign will accelerate the Institute’s strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities—helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer.

  • Partner with the PG team to achieve annual team revenue targets of $14M+ in new and realized commitments each year;
  • Personally solicit 7-9 prospects per month to become members of the Dana-Farber Society by including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Jimmy Fund in their wills or trusts, beneficiary designations, or by establishing a charitable gift annuity;
  • Recruit 50 Dana-Farber Society members each year;
  • Complete 95+ donor visits per year;
  • Send a minimum of 30 planned giving proposals each year, including bequest, life income gift, and IRA proposals;
  • Close $2M in planned gift expected value and $2M in new revenue;
  • Close 3+ charitable gift annuities annually;
  • Serve as main planned giving contact for Jimmy Fund staff;
  • Keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at Dana-Farber and planned giving vehicles;
  • Act as first touch point for all unassigned donors identified via PG inquiries from marketing and through daily donor reports by making outreach to thank donors, learn more about giving motivations, qualify them for the Dana-Farber Society, as well as cultivate for future visits;
  • Triage and respond to inquiries and questions from donors and colleagues made via email, web and the PG 1-800 information line regarding bequests, trusts, life income gifts, life insurance, IRA gifts and other planned gift vehicles;
  • Develop a working knowledge of the ClearView fundraising database and other management information and tracking systems used by the Division of Philanthropy to effectively update, track and manage progress toward personal solicitation goals, including donor visits and contacts;
  • Utilize mail, phone, email, or volunteers for solicitation or cultivation as appropriate;
  • Coordinate with Prospect Research team to provide donor profile information as needed;
  • Generate and distribute call reports.


Other Activities as Needed    

  • Participate as needed in Division of Philanthropy team efforts including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts. Ad-hoc projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Responsible for assisting the entire department, including other business units, in reaching financial goals.


Reports to Director of Planned Giving.



Bachelor’s degree required plus 3-5 years of development/philanthropy experience.



Strong oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals and deadlines. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and DFCI staff. Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Division of Philanthropy team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and development databases. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills. Willingness to travel in the New England area.





Remote work flexibility (up to one day in the office each week). Willingness to travel in Massachusetts and New England area.
