The Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing the activation, coordinated delivery, and ongoing management of a program-wide effort to improve access and coordination of care with referring providers including optimal long-term continuity of care for patients to be treated at DFCI. The Program Manager will support the implementation, development, and ongoing management of programmatic initiatives to foster relationships and improve equity of access to care and coordination with referring local, regional, national and international providers and health systems, participating in referring provider outreach and engagement.  The Program Manager will solicit input from subject matter experts and stakeholders from across DFCI and the engaged referring provider organizations and health systems and facilitate consolidation of a vision for continuity of care for cancer patients.  The Program Manager will also function as part of a project management team to initiate new coordination sites and systems.

The Program Manager will help develop and implement provider education programs and conferences as well as work with Communications to develop referring provider information, guides, and other collateral materials.  In addition, the Program Manager will work with outside advocacy organizations, establishing or continuing sponsorships, and supporting external events to promote the cell therapies enterprise.

The Program Manager has the primary responsibility for managing multiple work streams to ensure that teams are meeting timelines and milestones, as well as managing project logistics and supporting the engagement of project participants. The Program Manager will identify content interdependencies to facilitate knowledge sharing and integration. The Program Manager may also provide direct leadership for designated work streams involving planning and coordination of the respective teams’ delivery efforts.  The Program Manager will work closely with various institutional departments and programs as needed to plan, organize, execute, and evaluate the implementation of efforts to develop new models for continuous care delivery across multiple sites.


  • Oversee program-wide effort to improve coordination with referring providers
  • Build and maintain relationships with external customers, including payers, administrative and clinical contacts at other programs, and community providers
  • Work closely with institutional communications and marketing teams as well as business development teams
  • Ensure workstreams are meeting timelines and milestones
  • Co-develop initial delivery plans and activate workstreams
  • Manage logistics and support engagement of participants
  • Identify and escalate risks / issues as appropriate
  • Oversee the development and implementation of MD and RN/NP/PA continuing education conferences and events
  • Develop reports for executive leadership
  • Serve as an independent liaison among multiple departments at DFCI
  • Implement plans to expand referring provider outreach and engagement activities
  • May serve as the Program Manager for funded research programs
  • Represent the program locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, including visiting referring provider systems and sites
  • Attend conferences to present posters, and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience in a relevant field; Extensive experience may substitute for degree
  • Project management, customer service, communications, MD/health system relations, or conference planning experience preferred
  • Outstanding communication skills and interest in marketing in the healthcare field
  • Strong interest in equitable access to care and social barriers impacting timely referrals
  • Innovative and creative approach to program development and ongoing management
  • Demonstrated interest in best practices, healthcare delivery research, and meaningful data modeling
  • Familiarity with highly regulated clinical care environments
  • Interest in organizational culture and effective communication across platforms and institutions
  • Interest in business models as they impact approaches to healthcare delivery across different sites of care
  • Strong project management skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Broad understanding of and interest in clinical care stakeholder groups and patient advocacy organizations
  • Ability to build relationships with clinicians, faculty, and senior administration
  • Ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and set priorities
  • Excellent assessment skills to identify and escalate risks as needed
  • Must be a flexible, highly collaborative team member
