The Senior Media Relations Specialist is responsible for coordinating, developing and implementing proactive and reactive media relations efforts to promote the Institute as a top national comprehensive cancer center.

Responsibilities

  • Develop public relations materials/strategies for publicizing studies, treatment trends, patient stories and/ or other activities for various treatment centers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with reporters and editors in local, regional and national outlets and with trade publications
  • Manage @DanaFarberNews – a dedicated Twitter channel featuring research and treatment news
  • Staff media interviews on site
  • Attend medical meetings to promote faculty-generated research with media and trade publications
  • Respond to and/or triage news media inquiries.
  • Manage department's use of media database to generate/maintain media lists and track coverage, and provide advanced analytics reports
  • Assist with other media relations projects/activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, with 5+ years of media experience, of which a significant portion is in health care communications.
  • Computer-literate with significant experience with word processing, database management and Internet-related software programs.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to write copy, e.g., press releases, backgrounders, etc., that explains complex concepts in a clear, concise manner and is in accordance with Associated Press style. Must also have well-honed editorial and proofreading skills.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and to review and rearrange priorities on short notice.
