Meyerson Lab - Cancer Genomics and Genome-Inspired Discovery - Home 2 (dana-farber.org)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and exceptionally motivated research technician, with a BA/BS in biology or a related field, and with laboratory experience in molecular biology, cell biology and/or immunology.  In addition to technical and scientific knowledge, this individual should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, a working knowledge of computerized data handling, and the ability to perform meticulous record keeping. Candidates with plans to pursue cancer biology-related M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees are strongly encouraged to apply.

A highly motivated laboratory technician is sought to join a research team that studies the mechanisms of cancer genome alterations and cancer therapeutics. This individual will work with a post-doctoral fellow using cutting-edge molecular biology, cell biology, and genomics techniques. The environment is highly collaborative, stimulating, and multi-disciplinary, and will provide a rich environment in which to advance skills in genome, cancer, and molecular biology.

Good organizational and communication skills, flexibility, responsibility, and the ability to work within a team are all essential. Under the guidance of the research team, the ideal candidate will also be expected to collect data, interpret experimental results, and synthesize findings within the larger context of the project(s).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in molecular and cellular biology experiments, including but not limited to: PCR, molecular cloning, DNA electrophoresis, mammalian cell (tissue) culture, transfection and infection of cells with expression vectors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all experiments.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Submit and place orders for supplies, chemicals, and other reagents.
  • Ability to identify potential problems, and to communicate and troubleshoot them effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to thoroughly document experiments, protocols, and data. Must be able to logically structure tasks and set priorities.
  • Attention to accuracy, attention to detail, and raising questions promptly with Investigators about matters affecting data quality. Ability to independently follow protocols and troubleshoot procedures as required.
  • Time management – meets deadlines, balances multiple projects at all times. 
  • Communication – professional, courteous, and accurate communication of progress and results to a supervisor and principal investigator. Ability to communicate effectively with collaborating clinicians and scientists.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to use computers and enter data accurately
  • Ability to perform calculations accurately
  • Documentation – ability to provide thorough written and/or electronic documentation of protocols, weekly project status reports, and regular review with principal investigators
  • Ability to work independently and to function as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred. 
  • Experience with molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, and flow cytometry is desirable.
  • Master of Arts, or Master of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field welcome to apply.
