Overview

The Senior Planning and Consulting Manager supports Institute leadership planning and decision-making regarding the company’s most critical business issues and strategic priorities.

The Senior Planning and Consulting Manager leads the process of facilitating Institute leadership decision making regarding key clinical/ operational planning issues, providing leaders with in-depth analysis of various options and frameworks to support decision making. May work independently or in partnership with Principal and Senior Directors and may lead small project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Institute and department level planning through activities such as: scenario planning, environmental evaluations, contingency planning, visioning sessions, and focused 'deep dive' analysis of various strategic topics.
  • Serves as a team lead working simultaneously on multiple projects of moderate to high complexity.
  • Leads Institute and Department level planning activities such as: scenario planning, environmental evaluations, contingency planning, visioning sessions, and focused 'deep dive' analysis of various strategic topics.
  • Manages all aspects of client relationships throughout the project lifecycle, including project initiation, execution, and closeout.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams and interacts independently with staff, mid-level, and executive leaders throughout the organization (including C-Suite).
  • Leads conducting and synthesis of stakeholder interviews and engages in other research methods to gather information relevant to assigned projects (quantitative and qualitative, internal and market related).
  • Develops clear and effective meeting materials, presentations, and project collateral. Supports the design, development, delivery, and management of project/change related communications.
  • Identifies and highlights likely business and financial impacts associated with program planning or expansion, as well as required implementation dependencies, issues, and risks to serve as input to prioritization and planning process.
  • Develops and manages project work plans and status dashboards, coordinating with other departments and identifying/mitigating potential risks and issues.
  • Conducts impact analyses to assess Institutional/stakeholder readiness for change adoption and applies change management processes and tools to support adoption of change. Supports the design, development, delivery, and management of project/change related communications.
  • Ensures transfer of knowledge and responsibilities to owning operational areas prior to close-out of projects.
  • Contributes to Planning & Consulting staff development, as well as internal departmental process and performance improvement.
  • Utilizes and continues to improve and refine a standard set of strategy development, consulting, and business planning tools.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None. May provide training and guidance to others, including project team members. May manage entry level professionals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant Master’s degree strongly preferred (MBA, MPH, MHA, MSW).
  • 7 years of experience in strategic planning, business planning, consulting, project management, healthcare administration or similar field required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Deep knowledge of strategic planning, change management, and consulting practices, as well as experience within the healthcare field or academia; experience working with faculty a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to deliver presentations to a wide variety of
    audiences –up to and including executive level and C-Suite executives.
  • Role-model results-orientation, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills to other members of team.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex and consensus driven environments to facilitate decision making.
  • Ability to navigate challenging interpersonal dynamics and facilitate through difficult conversations towards resolution.
  • Expert level organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects and assignments.
  • Ability to convert client needs into strategic planning frameworks, providing guidance and thought partnership to internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective coaching and mentoring to peers and team members.
  • Ability to effectively design and facilitate large meetings.
  • Ability to deal effectively with highly ambiguous and evolving situations while exhibiting calm presence to stakeholders and team members.
  • Models and encourages high level of attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality results.
