Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures healthy and collaborative relationships among the adult faculty and staff within the DFCI and DF/BWCC. Takes an active role in fostering and developing relationships throughout the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, attending interdisciplinary DF/BWCC meetings and working to strengthen processes and systems. Oversees all aspects of financial and business analytics for disease center operations budgets in conjunction with individual Administrative Directors for Disease Center Operations. Adheres to Revenue Cycle and Business Office standards to maintain financial accountability. Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional development to remain current in the latest health care trends and developments.
Takes lead role in DFCI emergency planning and contingency strategies. Communicates any operational opportunities to VP of Ambulatory Practice Management and provides recommendations for operational changes and ensures implementation and adherence. Identifies and recommends a course of action for approval to the VP of Ambulatory Clinical Operations on organizational and/or operational problems requiring intervention or resolution.
Develops services and operational flow for the adult care community which includes 19 adult ambulatory disease centers in collaboration with relevant management. Reviews ongoing management of operations areas of responsibility, discusses and resolves any administrative issues that arise, and participates in the planning of improvements in existing clinical services. Resolves operational problems and keeps lines of communication open with staff to ensure high productivity. Manages quality control processes to ensure complete billing and reimbursement. Develops improved management techniques and practices. Works with the VP of Ambulatory Practice Management on all disease center related space assignments.
Works closely with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer on integrating physicians into clinic operations and monitoring physician productivity. Reviews physician employment agreements, professional service agreements for physicians and any contract provisions, updates and revisions. Works closely with Vice President of Nursing on integrating nurses into disease center operations and monitoring staffing levels to ensure safe, efficient delivery of care. Partners with clinical and administrative leaders to identify, prioritize, implement, and monitor progress of information system enhancements and upgrades, as well as new system introductions. Serves as communication liaison with hospital management, disease centers and clinic floor practices. Supports and improves patient access and patient satisfaction.
Prepares, justifies, and administers operating and capital budgets for the disease centers within institutional guidelines and in accordance with strategic plans. Monitors financial performance through key metric analysis. Conducts financial analyses of new or proposed programs through the development of pro forma. Audits, monitors, and manages the charge capture and charge reconciliation processes for each disease center.
Provides leadership, mentorship, and general management to Administrative Directors of Disease Center Operations and other departmental staff, and delegates authority to Administrative Directors. Maintains positive, collaborative working relationships. works with leadership to set performance standards and expectations. Serves as a resource to Administrative Directors of Disease Center Operations on performance related issues, including providing feedback to staff and developing performance plans. Supports and encourages professional development opportunities for managers and staff. Monitors staffing relative to workload and projected trends; conducts staffing/resource analyses and regularly informs leadership of relevant trends/future needs.
Continuously seeks opportunities for process and quality improvement. Leads and participates in initiatives to improve operational processes, new patient access and the patient experience. Educates and trains staff in quality and process improvement approaches and tools. Serves as team member in analyzing and/or implementing changes with the disease centers and clinic floors to enhance operational performance, workflow, efficiency, and inter-departmental activities. Develops, supports, and manages programmatic initiatives for care improvement and cost reduction. Exhibits commitment to improving service and product quality for internal and external customers. Designs processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Ensures work practices meet health, fire, safety, and regulatory requirements and compliance with Joint Commission and HIPAA standards.
Develops and launches new strategic initiatives, particularly in the area of clinical strategy and operations, and financial planning, and serve as lead project sponsor/manager for new departmental initiatives, including management of project staff, budgetary responsibility, and achievement of planned project outcomes. Serves as a key contributor to strategic planning with DFCI, DF/BWCC, Adult Ambulatory Services and Disease Center Leadership. Ensures appropriate program administrative support on major projects, as assigned. Manages and enhances relationships with all business partners.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a large and diverse constituency, including senior hospital and departmental clinical leaders, departmental and division faculty and support staff, collaborating institution officials, representatives, and vendors.
Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the overall conduct of the Department.
High degree of analytic ability to manage the financial and human resources aspects of the position.
Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in Business, Public Health, or Healthcare Administration (MBA, MPH, MHA) preferred.
10+ years of experience in clinical administration, project management, business planning and/or implementation in healthcare and/or consulting environment required.
Direct clinical operations experience preferred.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
