Overview

The Application Analyst II handles more complex application issues and participates in project implementations and upgrades. They analyze business requirements, design solutions, and ensure changes align with organizational objectives. This role provides guidance to junior analysts and contributes to process improvements and system optimization. The analyst serves as a key resource for IT and business teams, supporting effective application use and performance.

Incumbent will report to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) Director, Technology Strategy and Solutions for Radiation Oncology in the Information Services (IS) department.

The Radiation Oncology Information Systems team works solely to support the complex and technologically advanced Radiation Oncology Department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and associated satellite and outreach sites.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Application Lifecycle Management: Owns complex application features or modules end-to-end (design → build → test → deploy → support). Leads configuration, customization, and enhancement efforts. Designs and validates integrations and data flows in coordination with engineering and infrastructure teams.
  • Business Analysis & Solution Design: Leads translation of business requirements into detailed functional specifications. Analyzes business needs and designs digital solutions at the team, department, and enterprise levels. Recommends process and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and data quality.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Develops and executes comprehensive test plans to ensure software reliability. Oversees testing cycles and validates production readiness, considering downstream, upstream, and cross-functional dependencies to minimize risk and maintain stable operational flows.
  • Operational Support & Incident Management: Resolves complex application issues and manages multiple initiatives concurrently. Leads major incident response and problem management efforts. Implements preventive fixes to reduce recurring issues.
  • Training, Documentation & Knowledge Management: Designs training programs and advanced end-user documentation. Serves as a subject matter resource for users and support teams.
  • Collaboration & Vendor Partnership: Delivers high-quality, customer-focused support. Collaborates closely with vendors, developers, and cross-functional teams. Coordinates releases and supports adoption of new functionality.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Mentors junior analysts. Defines support standards and best practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of developing, configuring, supporting, or operating software applications.
  • Proven ability to gather requirements, document workflows, and coordinate UAT for small to medium initiatives.
  • Intermediate application configuration skills and workflow understanding.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical users across teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and common productivity tools.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and ITIL concepts.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, including small initiatives, with minimal guidance.
  • Able to apply knowledge of one or more application domains (e.g. EHR, ERP, CRM, HRIS) to support configuration, workflows, and user needs.
  • Supports change and release activities; applies integration knowledge, including data mapping and log/trace analysis, under guidance.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school/GED/Diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred.
  • 4 years of Information Technology experience supporting business or clinical systems applications required.
  • Information Technology experience supporting business or clinical systems applications in a healthcare environment preferred.
