NP/PA, Center for Cancer and Aging
The new Center for Cancer and Aging (CCA), planned to launch by the end of 2026, will provide geriatric oncology services to older adults age 65 and older across the Institute. The CCA offers a consultative service that provides geriatric assessment, recommendations and longitudinal follow-up to the patient, caregiver/partners, and their medical oncology care team. The NP/PA for the Center should have demonstrated interest and commitment to the field of geriatrics and working with older adult populations.
In collaboration with the Center’s Director of Geriatrics, the Oncology NP/PA manages care within the CCA, primarily outpatient with possibility. The NP/PA is responsible for acute and chronic problems associated with cancer, cancer treatment, and/or co-morbid conditions related with aging. The NP/PA provides anticipatory guidance, appropriate referrals, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support. The NP/PA has prescriptive authority which includes schedule II through V controlled substances in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The CCA NP/PA will also coordinate care for patients with their oncologists and APPs throughout DFCI Disease Centers, offering a unique opportunity to learn about many facets of modern cancer care for the older adult.
The NP/PA is a member of an interdisciplinary care team that requires effective communication and collaboration with co-workers at the Institute in addition to collaborating institutions and agencies. The role requires critical thinking, an understanding of research principles and practices and leadership that improves the quality of care and advances nursing/medical care within the work setting and throughout the community. The NP/PA takes advantage of formal and informal learning opportunities to strengthen his or her knowledge base in both oncology and geriatrics, with the goal to support the Institute’s Mission, Vision and Core Values.

NP Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioners who have picked geriatrics as their field of choice preferred. Terms and Conditions of employment for Nurse Practitioners at Dana-Farber are governed by a collective bargaining unit through the Massachusetts Nurses Association at our Longwood, Chestnut Hill, and Merrimack Valley locations.
PA Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree and successful completion of an AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program are required. Must be NCCPA Certified and licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts. Must maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses, and complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each 2-year period of employment. Certified gerontology experience preferred (ACNPC-AG, GS-C, AGPCNP-BC, American Geriatrics Society PA training)
PA I: No professional experience required.
PA II: 2 years of qualifying professional Physician Assistant experience
PA III: 5 years of qualifying professional Physician Assistant experience
