Overview

This position will report to the Senior IACUC Coordinator(s). IACUC has responsibility for evaluating and granting approvals for all research that involves vertebrate animals at DFCI. Under general direction, the IACUC Coordinator II will assist in screening research protocols, drafting and/or overseeing all correspondence related to committee reviews, and follow up on action items from meetings. Interacts with ARF managers, scientific staff and support personnel for the purpose of advising, directing and educating on matters related to vertebrate animal research. Works under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment. The IACUC Coordinator is instrumental in support of ACUC operations so as to meet its primary responsibility of protecting the rights and welfare of vertebrate animals used in research.   • Ensure that submitted research is reviewed efficiently and consistent with regulations: Help to oversee the accurate and timely processing, tracking and filing of submissions to and actions by the ACUC. Effectively communicate with investigators, committee Chair and ACUC members. Obtain and distribute information required for Chair, full committee or designated member review, maintain files, prepare meeting minutes. Assist with the implementation of training course(s) to assist investigators in writing their research protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of ACUC actions: Assist with documenting communications with investigators, regulatory agencies and any others involved in the conduct of submitted research. Assist with maintaining filing and archiving systems that allows access to open and closed protocols.
  • Ensure that continuing review of research is conducted appropriately and in a timely manner: Assist with ensuring information submitted by investigators is adequate for effective review. Assist with conducting post-approval monitoring of activities involving the use of animals in research at DFCI
  • Assist Department as IACUC liaison for investigators and research staff: Assist with answering questions and supplies information when required, conveys IACUC actions to appropriate individuals. Assist with screening inquiries and resolving issues, when possible, convey results of interactions to investigators and IACUC leadership as required.
