Overview

Lead Scientist works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Works on significant and unique issues that may impact future concepts, products or technologies on a broader scope than just one unit. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments. Works closely with directors on unit/lab issues. Manages the work efforts of more than one individual, mentors staff, and completes performance appraisals. Contributes broad knowledge of the field, strong leadership skills, technical proficiency, and scientific creativity. Works both collaboratively and independently.

  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.
  • Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Works closely with directors on unit/lab issues. Very wide latitude for decision-making.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent knowledge of the field with strong leadership skills. Resolves critical issues and contributes to unit/lab development

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in a scientific discipline or MD preferred and a
  • minimum of 12+ years related experience.
  • Works on significant and unique issues that may impact future concepts, products or technologies on a broader scope than just one unit.
  • Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
  • 5+ years management responsibility preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the work efforts of more than one individual and mentors staff.
  • Completes performance appraisals.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
