Overview

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician to join its Structural Biology Core Facility. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in structural biology and protein biochemistry while supporting a wide range of academic and translational research projects.

● The technician will perform recombinant protein expression and purification in bacterial and mammalian systems, and conduct in vitro biophysical and biochemical assays such as ITC and TSA to evaluate screening hits, inhibitors, chemical probes, and emerging compounds. Additional responsibilities may include protein crystallization and determination of high-resolution structures using X-ray diffraction.

● The individual will work closely with scientists in the core facility and collaborate with investigators in the Chemical Biology Program. Core staff are frequently included as co-authors on publications, and many go on to pursue graduate or medical school or careers in biotechnology.

The positions in this job family will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, they will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform recombinant bacterial & mammalian expressions

  • Execute chromatographic protein purifications

  • Setup in-vitro biochemical & biophysical assays

  • Setup crystallographic assays and screens

  • Develop research methods, maintain lab notebooks, and present research data and results

    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    The position requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in biology or chemistry, with no prior professional experience necessary. Candidates will learn and apply technical principles, processes, and concepts, use institutional policies to address routine issues, and work on problems of limited scope. The role involves following standard practices to analyze situations or data and building stable internal working relationships.

    • BA or MS in biochemistry, biology, chemical biology, or a related field.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present scientific data to colleagues and collaborators.

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional scientific teams and deliver results within established timelines.

    • Commitment to a minimum of two years in the position.

    • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
