Overview

Translates and diagnose reports and procedures into ICD-10-CM/HCPCS/CPT codes per coding guidelines and Institute specifications.

  • Responsible for applying diagnosis and procedural codes when applicable by effectively abstracting pertinent information from patient records and assigning codes utilizing 3M, Claims Manager, or Epic
  • Reviews services for appropriate use of CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPCS, and Modifier usage/linkage
  • Works as a liaison to providers to obtain medical information required for diagnosis and procedure coding
  • Reviews and analyzes claims stopped within Epic and resolves issues regarding (but not limited to) LCD/NCD, medical necessity, CCI issues, etc.
  • Reviews and analyzes rejected claims and collaborates with other areas within Patient Accounting to resolve denial, billing, and coding issues
  • Answers and responds accurately and timely to questions on the telephone, voice mail, e-mail, or via Coding Hotline as appropriate
  • Assists in staff training, educational sessions, and participates in team meetings as requested by management
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Codes
  • Conducts effective audits as requested by management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Should have the ability to be a dependable self-starter, able set priorities, manage multiple data needs, and meet appropriate deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and organizational skills. Able to work well independently on a team and as a trainer/facilitator
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, research, reporting, and accessing multiple hospital-wide systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent coding experience.
  • Prior experience is preferred.
  • CCS or CPC certification is preferred, or candidates must obtain certification within one year of hire.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
