Overview

The Senior Workday Integration Engineer designs, builds, and supports complex integrations between Workday and external systems critical to business operations. This role partners with functional, security, and downstream system teams to translate business requirements into reliable, secure integration solutions. The Senior Engineer is responsible for end-to-end delivery of integrations, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support. This position operates as a senior individual contributor, providing technical expertise and guidance while remaining hands-on.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support inbound and outbound integrations between Workday and external systems.
  • Build integrations using Workday technologies such as EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio, BIRTs, and APIs.
  • Partner with functional, payroll, and downstream system teams to gather and clarify integration requirements.
  • Perform unit testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution across non-production and production tenants.
  • Ensure integrations meet security, data privacy, and compliance standards.
  • Support deployments across Workday tenants following established change and release processes.
  • May supervise staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced hands-on experience with Workday integration technologies, including EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio, REST/SOAP APIs, and Workday Web Services.
  • Strong understanding of Workday data sources, business objects, and calculated fields as they relate to integrations.
  • Solid knowledge of Workday security concepts, including integration system users, domains, and business process security.
  • Experience designing and supporting both real-time and scheduled integrations.
  • Ability to interpret complex functional requirements and translate them into effective technical integration designs.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting integration failures, analyzing logs, and performing root-cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with file formats and data transformation (XML, JSON, flat files, SFTP).
  • Understanding of integration testing approaches, including negative testing and regression testing.
  • Experience supporting integrations in post–go-live or steady-state environments with formal change control.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional, technical, and vendor teams.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple integrations and priorities simultaneously.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in enterprise integration or Workday technical role required.
  • Hands-on experience delivering production Workday integrations required.
  • Workday Pro Integrations Certification preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Required: None

Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise other staff.
